Of Dress Ethics and Being Famous

UUM, Sintok; the place I am currently studying at has had its fair share of the news. Being in the press at the wrong time and the wrong place, ultimately results in a controversy. It can be said that UUM is famous for all the wrong reasons.

There was this issue with having too much water due to the rain. This is Kedah actually, the flood caused the Uni to start classes one week later causing lots of troubles and study week was cancelled!

Then there was this issue about having no water. What happened to having just enough water? Read it here, here, and here.

And now, there is this issue of how UUM students are dressing too little. I can't really say that I am proud of my own Uni when we are in the press for all these wrong reasons. Really here! I don't want to be the one when I attend an interview next time and my interviewer asks me. "You're from UUM, the place where the girls must wear baju kurung?" I would die in shame!

Read all the issue about the UUM Dress Ethics issue here, here, here, and if you can read chinese here, and here.

The Etika Pakaian Rasmi (Official Dress Code/Ethics) have been a pain in the ass from the starting of this semester. Rumors have been flying all over about how girls must wear baju kurung to class or risk being barred or worse, being chased out from classes. Then there was this rumor about how UK (Unit Keselamatan) stopped a bus and checked on whether the girls follow the dress ethics. They fined the girls on the spot. Its ridiculous and totally preposterous. I guess its not a rumor afterall.

Somehow, the whole thing got out of hand and its all over the papers now. Like what I said earlier, famous for all the wrong reasons. How I wished that UUM can be famous for offering some rare courses such as Risk Management and Accounting Information System. But nooooooooooo, they have to do something out of this world, to be totally different from the other Uni and stir up some possible racial issues.

I can imagine what UUM will get in their future issues. Dressing up too much! Come on! Give me some faith here, and let me graduate in peace.

    Hi FK,
this post url, has been posted in my blog.
Like I said in Tony's, its stupid to ask all people to dress down, im sure somethg will be done after ths exposure, till then, hang on, stay indoor from heat. Dun worry, its not going to an extent of the above pic.

I was in other public uni in the north, there are no such regulation, thank God. I cant imagine myself in yr situation.

    My dear Hafiz,
50 years ago, no one would have thought that the UUM dress code is going to happen. What is impossible to you (and me) today, may be something made (forcibly) possible in years to come.

What really pissed me of is the overzealous administrators imposing ridiculous rules on the students, giving the bad name to religion and causing tension among us. I, like you, believe that religion is good..only the perpetrators are bad. But if the silent majority keep quiet, we'll be becoming so overly obsessed with petty issues; e.g. dress code.
