Of Harry Potter Craze
I admit it, I pre-ordered the book way back when they was doing a promotion. Paying a hefty RM109.90 but I did not regret it even one bit. The latest and the final installment of Harry Potter, tittled Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is mine but sadly its not in my hand. Sigh! That's because I am still here at Uni, stuck! How I wish I could lay my hands on the book and engage in a reading marathon.
By now you guys would have read about the commotion that was going on with the book in The Star paper here, here, here, here, and here. Sure, the book is cheap and all selling at RM69.90 but how many can they sell? I don't really think that they can supply the whole Malaysia with enough Harry Potter books and they are doing it at a loss. Which means the cost of the book is more than RM69.90.
They are selling it at nearly half the price. To me, its just their marketing tactics to attract more customers to their stores. Its not wrong to me, coming from a Risk Management student but when you think about the long haul, they are certainly in the losing end. Their reputation will be down the drain because they will be unable to cope with the demand of their customers. The four major bookstores have the majority of the stocks and they are thinking of returning to the distributors as a worse case scenario action. All those who didn't pre-ordered and are unable to get a copy from their stores will have nothing and all the blame will go to the hypermarkets.
For those who don't know, I pre-ordered the book and I got a RM10 MPH voucher, a limited edition mug, a key-chain, and the latest Harry Potter DVD. Beat that! So guys, enjoy the book and don't be a spoil sport. Keep the ending to yourself and keep the magic alive.

I support the position of the bookstores and question the means and intetion of the hypermarts. But wow didn't know MPH was giving away DVDs and keychains! Heard about the coupon and mug though. I got a nice plush owl from Borders. Same here no regrets since I only paid RM 89.90 minus discounts for early birds
